NUTRITION

When students begin to get older and go into their teen years, they begin to choose what they eat and make their own lunches. It is necessary to inform students with the importance of healthy eating habits. The Canada Food Guide is a great place to start, the visual cues and its organization into simple categories makes it easy for students to follow!

Assignments
On a blank sheet of paper draw a meal and color it in. Once students have
handed in their assignments post them on the board and discuss portion sizes
and the importance of having a colourful plate.
Have students create a meal plan for one week. Include: Breakfast, Lunch,
Dinner, Drinks, and Snacks. To add on to this assignment create a section
for activity done in each day.
Everyone in the class finds a recipe for each meal of the day that is simple
and healthy. The teacher chooses one of the meals and teaches students
how to cook it. Take them into the home economics class and together
create the meal!
