Alberta Physical Education Curriculum
The aim of the Kindergarten to Grade 12 physical education program is to enable individuals to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to lead an active, healthy lifestyle.
The Physical Education Program promotes living an active lifestyle with a focus on integrating physical activity into daily living. The Program uses active living through physical education to promote:
A desire to participate
Activities that can be used through life and promote health-related fitness for life
physical activity in a broader perspective of total fitness and well being (physical, mental, emotional, and social dimensions)
The participation in intramural and inter school athletics and community-based sport and recreation activities
Inclusive, individual, and varied opportunities to participate in physical activity
Opportunities for making decisions about physical activity and health & well-being
Four general outcomes in the Physical Education (K-12) Program
Activity - acquire skills through a variety of developmentally appropriate activities through games, dance, types of gymnastics, individual activities, and activities in alternative environments (ie. aquatics & outdoor pursuits).
Benefits Health - understand, experience, and appreciate the health benefits that result from physical activity.
Cooperation - interact positively with others
Do it Daily… For life! - assume responsibility to lead an active way of life.
